The Canadian Criminal Code states:
(2) A person commits homicide when he causes injury to a child before or during its birth as a result of which the child dies after becoming a human being.
However, Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code states:
A child becomes a human being within the meaning of this Act when it has completely proceeded, in a living state, from the body of its mother, whether or not
- it has breathed;
- it has an independent circulation; or
- the navel string is severed.
Conservative MP, Steve Woodward, called for a special committee of parliament to consider when human life begins. Woodworth said:
“Section 223 is, purely and simply, a law that says some human beings are not human beings.”
With this in mind, and the promise that the abortion debate will never reopened, the Canadian Medial Association passed their motion to close the “backdoor” to once again discuss the abortion issue.
It seems the interpretation of paragraph 2 (killing or causing injuries that to a child after becoming a human being) is a needle in the eyes of the CMA. If a child is not human being before totally born, the implication is, of course, killing it is no offense. At least, it cannot be seen as murder. With paragraph 2 in place abortion,on the other hand, is indeed murder! The dilemma is not abortion, but the law that declares it murder!
But Dr. Will Johnston, president of Canadian Physicians for Life called Section 223 of the code “our profession’s biggest shame and biggest headache. It is a disastrous public policy which does far more harm than good.”
Dr R.C. Sproul (Jr) in “Little Deaths and Big Deaths” put his finger on the pulse to describe the “dilemma” of doctors and immorality in general these days:
“Babies both come from sleeping around, and get in the way of sleeping around. So they must be dispatched.“
Abortion is no solution to the problem of unwanted babies. You cannot fix one problem with another. It can only be fixed by returning to the well-spring of life: God the Creator. He appeared to us in Jesus Christ, the Author of life. To Him we turn for forgiveness of the sin of abortion, and to Him we turn for life itself.
David, in Psalm 139, sings about the wonders of God’s creation. For him, and for all human beings, this is where it all starts:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:13–16, NIV)
